Details: Amazon.ca Building on her experience in the musicals Grease and Five Women Show, Véronic DiCaire dares to release a first album of pop songs with folk influences. For this first studio foray, the young performer from Ontario did not do things by halves: she enlisted the services of a highly talented team of songwriters (Nancy Dumais and Mario Peluso, among others) and called on well-known musicians, such as guitarist Martin Bachand (Bruno Pelletier) and bassist Alain Caron. The result is a dozen warm songs, delivered with plenty of character, that are sometimes reminiscent of the work of Sheryl Crow. It is a pity that the abundance of syrupy tracks (half of the songs are ballads), which are sometimes interchangeable, detracts from the album's balance. Nevertheless, this first release from Véronic DiCaire features some very good moments and heralds a promising career. --Nicolas Houle
