Details: Amazon.ca It was in 1995, we don't really know where, that Bori, the singer who never showed his face, began his career. On Vire et valse la vie, his first album, we learn to appreciate his voice which recalls that of Serge Reggiani or Sylvain Lelièvre, his simple music where the keyboards predominate and which borrow from the circus, jazz and French song, as well as his neat poetry stuffed with daring lexical games – “He lives alone in town/Without bla-bla… a heron” (“Urbain”). Bori, who has an easy pen, takes stock of consumer society, sometimes gray (“Moody”), sometimes mocking (“Puces”), speaks of love with grace (“Sarah”) or casual (“14 ans ”) and takes a tender look at the naivety of childhood (“L'Enfant”, “Y frais”). Despite limited means of production and a reduced team of musicians, Vire et valse la vie turns out to be one of Bori's most interesting creations. The tone is always right, the aesthetic choices relevant, the lyrics tasty and, above all, an irresistible freshness runs through this album through and through. To discover. --Nicolas Houle
