Details: Known for his long and valuable collaboration with Cirque du Soleil (Alegria, Mystère, Saltimbanco), René Dupéré has lent his composing talent to the Dutch ice ballet troupe Holiday on Ice. First released in Europe, the soundtrack for the show Xotika, which features the 65 musicians of the London Musicians Orchestra, was remixed and reissued in North America in 2002.

As usual, René Dupéré draws from all genres, inviting our imaginations to follow him through different eras and countries. The three movements of the inspiring “Freedom” evoke, by turns, a child speeding on his bicycle and a wave rising in a rush toward the sky. In the luminous “Windspirits,” flute, guitar, and vocals engage in a dialogue one wishes could last forever. And what can be said of the majestic “Finale,” whose substance rivals that of the great symphonies.

The 13 tracks on the album are enveloped by the deep, powerful voice of the composer’s faithful collaborator, Élise Velle (Mystère, La belle est dans ton camp), whose exotic chants gracefully embrace the world music of Xotika. --Julie Sergent
