The first meeting took place at Cégep Joliette-de Lanaudière in 1992. There was Yanick, Stéphane, Mustang, and Cock Hot. In the years that followed, Stéphane began the Yelo Molo project on his own, which was more of a search for style, sound, identity, and experimentation than a defined project. Then, in 1997 at UQÀM, Stéphane met Sébastien during their mathematics classes, and the latter joined the original lineup with Dave, adding a brassy, "Hubertain" sound to the Molo rock. That same year, Yelo finally brought together the other three Lanaudière natives met at the Cégep to continue the Yelo project. At that time, many other musicians brushed through the band, which would perform with as many as ten musicians on a single stage. In December 1998, Yelo distinguished itself as a finalist in the late "L'Empire des Futures Stars" competition. During this period, the group prioritized its original work while continuing to perform covers. The week following L'Empire, the band began producing its first album without seeking investors—no artistic compromises were to be made! After restructuring the group to six members (there were ten at the competition), Yelo recorded its first album, "Écoute!", with Joe Petrella at Studio Le Divan Vert. The recording was completed just as they met Karine. Originally from Vaudreuil, Karine joined the group until the fall of 2003, at which point the band returned to its lineup of six merry pranksters!
The band has also recorded two other albums, "Méli-Molo" and "Snooze," in addition to releasing a box set bringing together their dynamic discography.
