Details: Amazon.ca Alto saxophonist Benjamin Herman stung the ears in late 1999 with his killer Get In, a soul-jazz gem featuring drummer Idris Muhammed and organist Larry Goldings. He reportedly went back to his Amsterdam band, the New Cool Collective, and urged them to go for something big. Here it is, a big-band takeoff on acid jazz, dance club energies. The band kicks the door in with "Flootie," a fast-paced guitar and Fender Rhodes-riffed shootout that recalls Quincy Jones's Big Band Bossa Nova. Then vaunted British hipster Georgie Fame stops in for a couple of showstoppers, and the band heads for a nod to the Carpenters and more big-horned party tunes.
