Details: From Amazon Toronto flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook honed his skills to a whole different level between the release of his fifth studio CD Nomad and his 2007 release, Frontiers. Cook and his wife were living in Seville, Spain between releases, so that he could further study under a host of virtuoso flamenco guitarists, and the result can certainly be heard on Frontiers. While Cook's previous work has veered slightly towards a more adult-contemporary style, Frontiers is truer to the traditional form, and more compelling as a result. The second half of the disc is where fans will find the most magic, especially prevalent when Cook brings three talented guest vocalists into the mix. The first disc highlight comes in the form of a rather unexpected song choice: a rumba-affected cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe" featuring the gorgeous vocals of Canadian singer/actress Melissa McClelland. Additionally, Amanda Martinez offers a rich melancholy on a Mexican folk song called "La Llorna" and former Cook contributor Maryem Tollar reappears with her Egypt-meets-Enya style in "Europa." As for fans of his upbeat instrumentals, rest assured that Cook's fiesty live shows will have a few lively clap-and-dance-along numbers to add to the set, including the rapidfire delivery of "Matisse the Cat" and "Vamos" as well as the percussive-laden romanticism of "Havana." --Denise Sheppard Product Description 2007 release from the Toronto-based Nuevo Flamenco guitarist, his sixth studio effort (and seventh album overall). Like other guitarists of his style of music, he incorporates Jazz, Latin and World music into his playing. The album sessions were recorded at Coach House Music in Canada and Cook composed all of the pieces (save one, a cover of Bob Dylan's 'It Ain't Me Babe'), inspired by a trip to Spain and the birth of his first son. Backing musicians include Chris Church, Art Avalos, Chendy Leon, Ross MacIntire, Kevin Fox, Gary Craig, Melissa McClelland, Amanda Martinez and Maryem Tollar. Some of his inspiration for Frontiers comes from a temporary move with his wife to Seville, Spain. 13 tracks. EMI.
