Don't expect this disc's collection of 13 previously released tracks to alter the perspective of either camp. Gypsy Fire is primarily targeted at a contemporary audience, one that probably appreciates the melodic essence found in each selection at least as much as the players' nimble finger work. You'll hear no vocalizing on this collection, and a bit more emphasis on tamer, midtempo (i.e., romantic) pieces than on previous Narada packages. Highlights include the smoldering sensuality of "Gentle Seduction," the opening track from Oscar Lopez, notes by the thousands flying through "Nuevo Sol" by Strunz & Farah, and the agile melodicism of Spain's Jose Luis Encinas on "Huracan Rumba." --Terry Wood
