Details: Hairspray is presented on this DVD in anamorphic widescreen in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Overall, the video transfer is pretty good with nice vivid colors and certainly no issues with speckles or dirt on the print. Skin tones look natural and the dominant pastel colors shine through brilliantly. My only concern is the level of detail that just falls short of spectacular. One can certainly discern between the various black levels (just look at the strands on Tracy Turnblad's big hair) and other minute details but a thin layer of film grain slightly clouds an otherwise pristine transfer.
