Details: Térez Montcalm présente son nouvel album, I Know I’ll Be Alright, un parcours gourmand entre ses propres compositions et quelques-unes de ses chansons préférées, tous genres confondus. Dans son groove, Térez embarque Gilbert Bécaud, Neil Young, David Bowie ou Michael Jackson, avec des reprises d’une ferveur et d’une liberté époustouflantes. Sous la direction de Jay Newland (producteur de Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding, Juliette Gréco ou Ayo), elle a enregistré à Bruxelles avec le pianiste Pierre de Bethmann, le bassiste Christophe Wallemme, le guitariste Jean-Sébastien Williams (le seul Québécois de son groupe actuel), Géraldine Laurent pour quelques titres au saxophone et le batteur Fabrice Moreau. Voix chaude et rauque, elle continuera de sculpter ces mélodies venues de tous les genres pour en faire son jazz si singulier, quelque part entre l’élégance radieuse des grandes divas historiques et la fougue instinctive des rockeuses. -------------------- The new album from Canadian singer Térez Montcalm – her seventh – has the title I Know I’ll Be Alright, and it weaves a passionate path between compositions from her own pen and some of her favourite songs by other writers, irrespective of genre. In the groove with Térez Montcalm here are such unlikely figures as Gilbert Bécaud, Neil Young, David Bowie or Michael Jackson, and her versions of the titles by the latter have a stunning fervour and freedom to them. Montcalm makes no secret of the fact that she derives just as much pleasure from 'covers' as she does from her own compositions. Five brand-new songs in all, inspired by her own life-experiences. Guided by Jay Newland – the producer of Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding, Juliette Gréco or Ayo – Térez recorded the album in Brussels with pianist Pierre de Bethmann, bassist Christophe Wallemme, guitarist Jean-Sébastien Williams (the only Quebec musician in her current group), Géraldine Laurent playing saxophone here and there, and drummer Fabrice Moreau. With a warm, husky voice, she continues sculpting melodies from all kinds of genres to make them her own, special jazz, somewhere in between the radiant elegance of history's great divas and the fiery instinct of the great rockers.
