Details: Ideal US are a five-piece male R&B group that hail from Houston, Texas. Their eponymous debut boasts production credits from Babyface's protégé Jon John, Laney Stewart (K-Ci & Jo-Jo) and J-Dub (Kelly Price, Sean "Puffy" Combs and Faith Evans) among a string of others. For this reason, it's difficult to discern where Ideal US are really coming from. They can sing, but their sound is cribbed from R Kelly and Jodeci. This magpie approach to song writing does throw up some interesting musical ideas and occasionally some pretty pleasant songs. The best by far is "Creep Inn", a sweltering mid-tempo R& B ballad that proves that they can write anthems. Ideal is an album by reasonable talents with solid production, which neither disappoints or excites. However until R&B throw up another male group of the calibre of Tony! Toni! Tone!, this will do just fine for those intimate moments. --Na'solo So'Fahed
