Details: Amazon.ca Global Underground's Nu Breed series is intended to showcase the mixing skills and musical taste of DJs who are on the verge of breaking into the world of turntable superstars. Following in the footsteps of Sander Kleinenberg, Anthony Pappa, Steve Lawler and Danny Howells, this fifth album in the series takes a closer look at the bald-headed deck phenomenon that is Lee Burridge. Along with Sasha and Craig Richards, Burridge is responsible for running the very successful Tyrant nights at London's Fabric and at Nottingham club The Bomb. The nights have built Burridge a solid following and this double CD package aims to explore why. Opening his set with the epic Marshall Jefferson tune "Mushrooms", Burridge takes us through tasty, fruggable fare from the likes of Mood 2 Swing ("The Slippery Track"), deep and dark throbs courtesy of Photek ("Glamoura ma"), feisty breaks moves from BLIM and Chris Carter ("Check It Out") plus plenty more moments of bounce and groove. Overall, this is an accomplished mix that neatly sidesteps cliché and maintains an infectious funk factor. --Paul Sullivan
