Details: Episodes: "Bringing In the Harvest" A field of tomatoes may be vast but Harvester can handle it! He can gather the plants, separate the tomatoes from the vines and then carefully move them to big trailers pulled by tractors, all at the same time! At the factory millions of tomatoes are flushed out of the trailers by water and carried up a conveyor belt. They’re on their way to being made into ketchup, spaghetti sauce and tomato soup. At the grape harvest, Clipper takes off the leaves to let the sunshine ripen the grapes while Grape Harvester drives down the rows of plants in the vineyard gathering the grapes. It’s a fine harvest this year. "At the Steel Mill" Making steel is complicated, but Slab Hauler knows everyone at the steel mill and has offered to take us on a tour. We’ll meet a ladle crane, an electro-magnetic crane, a turbo train and even a fire quencher. It takes a whole team of special machines to produce steel. Making steel is a lot like baking! Dozer works with Scraper to send coal off to the coke ovens where it is turned into coke. Coke is put into a blast furnace along with iron ore and limestone, and that makes iron. Iron goes into the steel mill where it is mixed with scrap in another oven. Now turn up the temperature and … presto! It turns into big, red-hot slabs of steel. Moving the slabs of steel is Slab Hauler’s job, and he loves to show his strength by picking up stacks of them all at once. "Hot Off the Press" Ever wonder how a newspaper is made? Charlie the printing press is three stories high and as long as a city block! He prints the newspaper, folds it and sends it to customers by truck. But Charlie can’t do everything himself. He works with a team of robots! When Charlie needs more paper all he has to do is send the robots a message and one of them delivers a fresh roll. They run all over the plant delivering new rolls of paper and taking finished newspapers to delivery trucks. The robots even talk to one other and Charlie. The machines at the newspaper plant know what teamwork is all about! "Laying Down the Pipeline" Pipelines carrying oil, gas and other petroleum products are buried underground all over the world. Did you ever see the machines that build and bury the pipelines? Big excavators have to dig deep trenches hundreds of kilometres long. Each section of steel pipe has to be welded together into one long piece and the welds have to be checked so they’ll never leak. Inspector makes sure of that. Bulldozers that lay the pipe in the ground have to be especially strong so they can lower it gently down into the trench. They work together as a team to get the job done, quickly and safely. This pipeline crew has a special machine called a Skagit. He’s a river digger who helps bury the pipeline at the bottom of a river. Now that’s a mighty machine worth watching!
