Amazon.ca Since the early 1970s Vangelis has been one of the most successful composers of electronic albums and film scores. What is less well known is that Vangelis was once on the cusp of joining rock supergroup Yes (in between Rick Wakeman leaving and Patrick Moraz joining). It was this association which led to Yes's lead singer, Jon Anderson guesting on Vangelis' album Heaven and Hell, performing the song which became this collection's title track, the beautiful "So Long Ago, So Clear". The success of this release led, under the name Jon and Vangelis, to a series of popular albums and hit singles, and this extensive anthology assembles both the best of these works and some of Vangelis' finest solo material. The expected hits are present, with "I'll Find My Way Home" and "State of Independence" and well-known film themes from Chariots of Fire and 1492: Conquest of Paradise. There is also a new recording of the lovely "Hymn", the original of which appeared on Opera Sauvage and the collection Themes, and a previously unreleased piece, "Sauvage et Beau".
