Details: Fondé en 1997, Matapat est composé de deux interprètes principaux, Simon Lepage et Gaston Bernard, qui partagent leurs talents à la contrebasse, la basse électrique, le violon, la mandoline, la guitare, la podorythmie et la voix. Pour ce nouvel album, Matapat a sollicité la contribution de musiciens invités comme Tommy Gauthier au violon, Subir Dev au tabla, Jean-François Berthiaume au « tambour à mailloche », Sabin Jacques à l'accordéon, Michael Ayles à la flûte ainsi qu'Éric Breton aux percussions. Interprète, arrangeur, musicien de studio et bassiste accompli, Simon Lepage apporte de la profondeur au son de Matapat. Il cumule plus de vingt années d'expérience comme musicien professionnel et a travaillé avec différents types d'ensembles, de l'orchestre symphonique à l'ensemble de jazz, et a accompagné plusieurs groupes de la scène populaire québécoise ainsi que d'origines culturelles et de styles musicaux différents. Gaston Bernard a participé à de nombreux projets, notamment aux côtés d'Ouzo Power, de Davy Spillane, du groupe Hothouse Flowers, ainsi que de Karen Young et Murray Head. Founded in 1997, Matapat is composed of two lead members, Gaston Bernard and Simon Lepage, who play acoustic as well as electric bass, fiddle, foot-tapping, mandolin, guitar and vocals. For this new recording album, Matapat invited experienced musicians like Tommy Gauthier (fiddle), Subir Dev (tabla), Jean-François Berthiaume (bohdran), Sabin Jacques (accordion), Michael Ayles (flute) and Éric Breton (percussions). Composer and arranger Simon Lepage adds his diverse background in world music, jazz and classical as a rich compliment to the band's unique presence on the stage. An accomplished bass player, Simon took advantage of the opportunities Montreal's cosmopolitan environment offered to him to work closely with musicians from many other countries. Gaston Bernard's Acadian background accounts for his fluent English which has allowed him to play and sing in a variety of musical projects, ranging from French to Greek to African Music, while touring throughout Europe and North America. Gaston's warm and sincere vocals add texture to the band's sound which he compliments by switching between fiddle, guitar and mandolin.
