Return To The Cape

Release Date: 01-01-1900

Details: Product Description Traditional and original fiddle tunes from two phenomenal Cape Breton Musicians. J.P. Cormier and partner Hilda Chiasson-Cormier bring superb musicianship and beautiful arrangements to this set of traditional and original tunes. By turns driving, melancholy, thoughtful, and exuberant, Return To The Cape features J.P. on fiddle guitar, mandolin, bajo, bass, and Hilda on keyboards. After many years as a session musician and sideperson in Nashville, J.P. Cormier came home to Cape Breton and the music he grew up on. Return To The Cape is the stunning result. Nominated for "Instrumental Artist of the Year," East Coast Music Awards, 1997 About the Artist J.P. Cormier started playing guitar at the age of five to accompany his dad, who played the fiddle. Although his family was living in London, Ontario, having moved there from their native Cape Breton, J.P. quickly became immersed in the rich music of Cape Breton and all its Celtic roots. At the age of twelve, after his family had moved back to Cape Breton, he began to play bluegrass guitar. Two years later he recorded his first album of guitar instrumentals. When he was sixteen, J.P. started playing the fiddle. He also moved to the southern U.S. and started a successful career as a country sideman, sharing the stage with some of country music's most respected names, including Travis Tritt, Hal Ketchum, Pam Tillis, and Mark O'Connor. After recording "Return to the Cape," J.P. and his wife, noted traditional piano player Hilda Chiasson-Cormier, returned to Cape Breton. Since then, J.P. has been a staple on the East coast music scene. He was nominated for "Instrumental Artist of the Year" at the 1997 East Coast Music Awards, and won the "Roots and Traditional Artist of the Year" at the 1998 East Coast Music Awards, as well as being nominated for a Roots/Traditional Juno Award in 1998.
