Details: Amazon.ca Part of the concept behind applying music to this film will almost certainly have been to whip up a Korngoldian spirit of swashbuckling adventure. In the mock-ups that composer Randy Edelman would have made, it probably sounded like he'd got it. At the orchestral sessions it will have seemed settled. But then he added his own style, which is to overlay live instruments with synth samples (see "Kyle, The Wheat Boy"). The result almost always fits the picture; this time it didn't. Instead it's one of his most enjoyable scores- -but only on disc. What would once have been the movie's bad guy ("Dragonslayer") is now a misunderstood Sean Connery with fiery breath. Curiously there is something of Edelman's score for Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story in the "Main Title" introduction of principal motifs. Then, perplexingly, the spiritual movie finale is sequenced second ("To the Stars"). There are some comic interludes amongst the derring-do, too. After years of waiting for the CGI to catch up this score possibly attempts too much all at once. --Paul Tonks Product Description Randy Edelman
