Details: Product Description Nanette Workman Amazon.ca With Vanilla Blues Café, Nanette Workman once again crosses the shores of her native Mississippi and delivers a resolutely blues album, with a few rock accents. Accompanied by an undeniably gifted team, which includes Jimmy James on guitar, Bob Stagg on B3 organ and Jim Zeller on harmonica, among others, the former Rolling Stones backing vocalist performs nine new songs and borrows a few , including an astonishing version of "I Lost My Baby", by Jean Leloup, and a disappointing cover of "Rock Steady", by Bryan Adams, in duet with an uninspired Éric Lapointe. Despite the artist's ever-fluid voice and his impressive list of collaborators, Vanilla Blues Café only half seduces. The most rhythmic tracks do not always have the desired impact, for lack of a complete mix or even because of writing weaknesses. On the other hand, the acoustic compositions work very well. The "I Need Love" and "On the Side", courtesy of Billy Workman, brother of the singer and former accomplice of Pagliaro, are among the highlights of the disc, just like the title track, half-acoustic, half-electric , tied by Lady Marmelade herself. Vanilla Blues Café is in a way a logical continuation of Roots'n'Blues and confirms that Nanette is at ease in the small world of Muddy Waters, even if she can commit a few oddities here and there. --Nicolas Houle
