Details: Product Description A spectacle beyond anything you've ever witnessed. An experience beyond everything you've ever imagined. Behind the red velvet curtain, the ultimate seduction of your senses is about to begin. Welcome to the Moulin Rouge! Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor sing, dance and scale the heights of passionate abandon in the year's most talked-about movie from visionary director Baz Luhrmann (William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom). Enter a tantalizing world that celebrates truth, beauty, freedom and above all things, love. Amazon.ca After his twirling Ballroom Dancing, indisputable apology for dance, and its very surprising and modern adaptation of Shakespeare in Romeo & Juliet, Baz Luhrmann revisits the myth of Orpheus and approaches, with the originality for which he is known, a new register: that of musical comedy. A veritable whirlwind of colors, rhythms and sounds, Moulin-Rouge seduces or upsets but commands admiration through the rigor and excellence of its production, particularly artistic. From the grandiose and kitsch sets (Satine's room, the elephant!) to the sumptuous and flamboyant costumes (the frilly dresses of the cancan…), the staging leaves nothing to chance and every detail is meticulously studied to carefully transcribe the glitz and extravagance of Montmartre and the Parisian nights of the 1900s. In the midst of this eccentricity, the couple Nicole Kidman (the divine Satine, courtesan torn between her career and her love) and Ewan McGregor (the candid Christian, chilled poet struck down by his passion) offers a saving respite and demonstrates, if need be, that lyricism, emotion and humor marry harmoniously. Equipped with a magnificent soundtrack which sees Elton John, Madonna, the Beatles or even Queen transposed far from their time, equipped with a prestigious DVD edition which is full of bonuses which will transport the spectator behind the red curtain of the famous cabaret to discover secrets and other anecdotes from the film, Moulin-Rouge is a monumental spectacle as intoxicating as a glass of absinthe but so euphoric. -- Frederic Thorens Special Features The "Spectacular, Spectacular" theme of Moulin Rouge continues with the two-DVD set's dazzling array of extras, a must-watch for the Moulin Rouge fanatic. The first disc contains the film along with two commentary tracks--one with Baz Luhrmann, the production designer, and the cinematographer, the second with Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, the writers of the film. Both comments contain lots of interesting and fun facts about the making of the film, including back story on the characters that was eventually cut, Courtney Love's long deliberation before allowing the use of Nirvana's "Teen Spirit," and contributions to the story made by the film's stars. The second disc contains a making-of documentary, amusing footage of McGregor and Kidman goofing around on the set, and interviews with all the major stars. Deleted scenes, extended dance numbers, the MTV music-awards performance of "Lady Marmalade," and many more extras make for a detailed look inside Moulin Rouge that's bursting with as much energy as the nightclub itself. --Mindy Ruehmann
